I’ve sported a beard for quite a while now, but usually after a couple months, I shave it down to stubble and start all over again. This is of course, a very hairy vicious cycle, and I’m not ever able to totally enjoy the full time fashion of the permanent beard. This premature shearing isn’t the case of a bad beard…actually quite the opposite…I naturally have a really thick, manly man type beard. However, what could develop into a beard of epic proportions, turns very dry and frizzy.
That’s about the time that I get frustrated and shave it down to start over. I’ve tried shampoos, conditioners, fancy schmancy hair potions, (these are usually…uh…appropriated from my wife…don’t tell her I use her stuff on my beard. She’s not a nice, happy person and that could very well send her over the edge) all to no avail.
(The fact that my wife is not a nice or happy person sucks too, that’s just for a different post…)
Finally, after doing some extensive research, (Googling “how to make my beard not suck and turn into a brillo pad) I found that there are a whole line of products on the market specifically for dudes who have beards and don’t want them to look like Tom Hanks in Castaway.

Honest Amish – The Most Trusted
Brand in Beard Care
Our shop is located in a small town in Western, Pennsylvania. We make everything by hand and all of our items are made from scratch from original recipes. We carefully craft the highest quality handmade soaps, beard balms & waxes, salves, lip balms, licorice, and products using only 100% natural, organic and sustainable ingredients. We never use man-made chemicals, fragrances, petroleum by-products, or man-made preservatives and we never put or containerize our products in plastics.
That sounded pretty awesome to me…especially since I was nearing that stage where brillo beard had to go.
Let me tell you a little about the Honest Amish products I tried…
Honest Amish Beard Oil
This stuff is absolutely incredible. So much so, that I actually already ordered a second bottle so I don’t have to worry about running out for a while. It’s extremely light, and unlike the name…not too oily. It’s got a super manly smell to it…kinda like root beer and black licorice…that just totally grows on you. The aroma is not anywhere near overwhelming, but it doesn’t go away five minutes into putting it on either. It provides a very pleasant, subtle smell that’ll last you pretty much all day. All you need is a couple drops from the included dropper, rub it in your hands and then apply it to your beard. Once you’ve put it in your beard, use a beard comb to evenly distribute. Almost immediately, I noticed a change in my beard. It just looked healthier. It’s not greasy and if you get it on your skin, you don’t glisten like an 80s supermodel either. Each bottle is 2 ounces and should last you quite a while. I highly recommend this for anyone with a beard. It’s all natural and organic…like all their products…and made specifically for your beard.
Honest Amish Beard Balm and Conditioner.
This is now part of my bedtime beard regimen. It’s a balm, so you need to scrape some out and rub it in your palm till it liquifies, before applying to your beard. Once you do, I find it to be pretty heavy duty and long lasting. All you need is a little bit, as it’ll definitely lube up your beard. The balm is more greasy than the oil…not a bad thing at all…just that you’ll glisten if you get it on your skin. This is why I use it at night. When I wake up in the morning, my beard is nice and soft, and ready for the day.
Honest Amish Mustache Wax
This stuff is neat! I’ve never really spent much time grooming my beard, mostly because I was a dummy and didn’t think you had to, and because my wife absolutely LOATHES twisted up mustaches. NOW I DO BOTH! This wax gives you an awesome grooming experience, allowing you to smooth your beard down…or turn your ‘stache up. All without leaving a film or greasiness at all. Perfect, essential stuff for adding a bit of professionalism to your beard. And super fun to try out different mustache styles. This stuff retains its hold great.
Honest Amish Medicated Lip Balm
First off, I’m not a big fan of lip balm or chapsticks. However, my kids are. I tried this stuff, and it was ok…didn’t feel too oily or anything. Not any taste to it that I could tell, because of course, knowing me, I wound up eating some. And it had a very good, understated smell to it. The kids LOVED it! Completely raved about it. Said it was better than anything they tried before, but it was just a bit difficult for them to actually use it. It didn’t come in a tube. You gotta put a little on your finger and apply that way. All in all, for just a couple bucks, they were happy and use it daily. The real test on this one though is gonna come in the colder months.
Honest Amish Soaps (Fisherman’s Licorice Scrub, Peppermint and Chickweed Bath & Body Soap, Original Beard & Body Soap)
Wow. Just wow. You can just throw away the Dial and Irish Spring right now. This stuff is the most incredible thing ever. I’m not a pampered “take a bath with all sorts of different soaps” kinda guy, but I do get dirty and I do like to be clean. These Honest Amish soaps are just quite simply, the best. Every time I take a shower, I feel like as if I just had a spa day. Not that I actually know what a spa day is, but still…The soaps all have powerful, yet not overbearing aromas to them. Gosh…the best way I can describe it, is FRESH. And CLEAN. They rinse off really easy, unlike some other non-organic soaps where you feel like you have to stand in front of a fire hose to get rinsed off. So fresh and so clean. I really can’t say it enough. Being all natural and organic, they’re good for your skin too. Sensitive or not. And on top of feeling your best after that shower, the awesome smell will stick with you for a bit. And it’s just so earthy and natural. Love this stuff.
All in all, I’m extremely satisfied with Honest Amish products. They also offer tee shirts, hats, (which I have one!) and “Beard Aid” kits, along with a wider variety of soaps, oils, balms, and salves. These guys at Honest Amish know what they’re doing and it shows in their products. Daddy Anarchy definitely endorses Honest Amish and will continue to be a loyal customer. Do yourself a favor and check these guys out. They have something for everyone. Their products are natural and organic…and you’d be supporting small business. All around win-win-win situations! And oh yeah, customer service and shipping match their product line…excellent.
